1) Right Sizing Comes First (Manual J, Not Guesswork)

A furnace that’s too small struggles on cold snaps; one that’s too large short‑cycles, wastes fuel, and creates temperature swings. Proper sizing starts with a room‑by‑room load calculation—most commonly ACCA Manual J—that accounts for square footage, insulation, window area and orientation, air leakage, and local climate. Accept no “rule of thumb” sizing.

After the load is known, the installer selects equipment capacity and blower performance that actually match your home. If you’re replacing ductwork, the duct design should follow ACCA Manual D with attention to total static pressure and register selection (Manual T).
